After expanding its character limit to 280 characters, Twitter is now testing another requested feature called Notes.
Using the new feature, users can directly publish a long-form text along with the option of uploading media. The company confirmed the news through a tweet on their platform.
According to The Verge, the new feature is currently available to selected regions which include Canada, US, UK, and Ghana. People in most of these countries can use the Notes feature on Twitter.
According to Twitter users can click on the “write” tab to start writing a note and embed the note into their tweet. These notes can have images, videos, or other forms of media.
According to the details shared on Twitter’s website, “for readers in countries where the test will be running, you’ll see Note cards Tweets with Note previews and links in your Home timeline if you’re following someone participating in the Tweet test group for Notes, or if someone you follow Retweets, Quote Tweets, or shares a link to a Note”.
Several reports were surfacing on different social media platforms for the last few months regarding the launch of the new feature. Twitter has finally confirmed the update that can help the platform add more value to its content. However, Twitter has not given any timeline regarding its launch worldwide.
Significantly, users will also be able to edit their Notes after publication from the outset, which is a notable deviation from Twitter’s anti-edit stance of yore. A label signalling that the Note has been edited will be added to the top of the article, and Twitter has said it is requiring users who are part of the current test to “include updates in their Notes informing readers about changes they have made to the Notes in a manner consistent with best practices for online editing of published content.”
