A 19-year-old man was shot and killed just before 8 p.m. during a fight Friday night in the Nordstrom department store at the Mall of America, the Bloomington police chief said late Friday, adding that investigators are working to identify suspects.
The shooting led to a lockdown of the mall for about an hour. Videos posted on social media showed shoppers running for cover after hearing the gunshots .
At around 7:50 p.m., a Bloomington officer in the mall and near the Nordstrom store reported hearing gunfire and found the 19-year-old shot multiple times.
In August, gunfire erupted at the mall following a confrontation. No one was injured. Five people were charged in the incident. In October the mall installed a metal detector at one of their entrances. A shooting last December on New Year’s Eve left two people injured.
