The senseless death of Amy Joyner, a 16-year-old Delaware high school student, has the local community and people across the country looking for answers.
Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, Delaware was immediately closed on Thursday following the news of Amy’s passing.
The goal was to allow students and staff the opportunity to mourn the tragic loss of her short life, while also providing investigators the chance to get to the bottom of what happened.
Based on what’s been reported so far, the circumstances surrounding Amy’s death are extremely troubling and difficult for most to process.
According to ABC7 Chicago, Amy was initially involved in a physical altercation with another female student around 8:15 am on Thursday morning in one of the high school’s bathroom. The dispute is believed to be over an alleged disagreement about a boy when the fight took a turn for the worst.
A fellow female student who was in a bathroom stall at the time says at some point the confrontation went from a one-on-one fight to a group of girls attacking Amy.
Unconfirmed reports also claim a witness saw one of the girls in the attacking group slam Amy’s head on the sink, while other reports only suggests that the teen “hit her head on the sink” at some point during the attack, which is believed to have led to Amy’s death.
